Summary: New Delhi [India], Sept 5 (ANI): The Ministry of Human Resource Development on the advice of University Grants Commission (UGC) and the empowered experts' committee, issued orders to five universities conveying their declaration as Institutions of Eminence(IoE).
In addition, Letters of Intent were issued to five Private Universities for accepting and sending their preparedness for being declared as IoE. These are Amrita Viswavidyapeetham, Tamil Nadu, Vellore Institute of Technology, Tamil Nadu, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi, Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Odisha and Bharti Institute, Satya Bharti Foundation, Mohali.
This year, UCLA IOES celebrated "Innovators for a Healthy Planet" and raised more than $1 million for the institute, which attracts the best environmental science students and scientists in the world and gives them the tools, network and platform to be game-changers for sustainability. John Salley returned as host of the gala, which included a special performance by Jackson Browne followed by a one-of-a-kind live auction item to benefit the institute.
"Whether you're tracking against strategic security goals or needing to meet strict compliance regulations, IOE history and trend data is a way to bring diverse, complicated metrics into a quickly digestible format."
The committee will select top ten public and top ten private IoEs among 114 applicants.
"The selected IoEs will have freedom to fix and charge fee from foreign students without restriction and would have the freedom to determine the domestic students' fees, subject to the condition that no student who gains admission should be turned away for lack of finance," the MoS, HRD said.

"We were interested to know what happened to this species during the climate warming at the end of the last ice age because we were looking for insights into what might happen today due to human-induced climate change," Glen MacDonald, director of UCLA's Institute of the Environment and Sustainability (IoES), said.
Scientists from IoES and other UCLA departments obtained samples and worked on radiocarbon dating of the peatlands and the forests, and they created a database uniting information on hundreds of previously dated mammoth samples, developing the final map from thousands of dates and latitude and longitude records.
