The SEIFA index was derived by the ABS based on the characteristics of the residential areas of 2006 Census respondents, in which, the Index of Relative Socio-Economic Advantage/Disadvantage (IRSEAD) was chosen for this comparison as it includes measures of both relative advantage and disadvantage (Australian Bureau of Statistics 2008).
It is found that our deep disadvantage variable has a negative correlation (-0.23) while the advantage variable has a positive correlation (0.68) with the SEIFA IRSEAD index.
