The transmitter used was the 50 GHz propagation beacon of the ITALSAT geostationary satellite, which can be seen at an elevation of 40.2 [degrees] from the antenna site.
The new optimum (focused) position of the secondary was determined by performing pointing cross scans on the ITALSAT satellite and displacing the secondary to minimize the SLL, that is, the ratio between the highest side lobe and the main lobe.
The method has been applied successfully to the 14 m radio telescope at the CAY using results of the Misell algorithm for the main mirror profile determination and the 50 GHz beacon of the ITALSAT satellite for the measurements of the antenna patterns required by the algorithm.
