Imtinan Elahi Qureshi, in his opening remarks, gave the background of ITRGs formed to collaborate scientific research aimed at finding solutions to common problems.

is undertaking joint research project entitled 'Characteristics and Mechanism of the Extreme Climate Events under the Climate Change Background', which is being funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology, China.
According to the ITRG
's population estimates, elephants had decreased by 74 percent between 1979 and 1989 in the predominantly East and West African countries voting in favor of the ivory-trade ban, whereas elephants had increased by 9 percent during the same period in the predominantly southern African countries voting against the ban.(30) In essence, countries with declining elephant populations voted to impose an anti-trade policy on countries with sound wildlife management programs whose elephant populations were stable or increasing (152).
