The three main families of representative compounds were selected in Figure 2, including (i) isothiazolidinone (IZD
) derivatives [16, 21], (ii) difluoromethylphosphonic (DFMP) acid derivatives , and finally (iii) thiophene-2-carboxylic acid derivatives [18, 22, 26].
80% ethanolic extract was screened against six bacteria and their potency was qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed by the diameters of the inhibition zones (IZD
) as summarized in Table 5.
Figure 1 showed the in vitro antibacterial activity of s-mucin as a function of the IZD
The inhibition zone diameter (IZD
) and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the ligands and complexes are given in Tables 7 and 8, respectively.

After incubation at 37[degrees]C for 48 h, the zones of inhibition (IZD
) were measured and the MIC value obtained from the intercepts of log concentration axis of a graph of IZ[D.sup.2] against log concentration.
###Inhibition Zone diameter (IZD
) in mm (Means S.E.M)
Each test was carried out thrice and the mean inhibition zone diameter (IZD
) recorded to the nearest whole millimetre.
