Rosman, "Isotopic source signatures for atmospheric lead: the Northern Hemisphere," Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta, vol.
In our case model, feathers and blood isotopic values (whole blood and plasma corrected against whole blood) were used as sources of nutrients from endogenous and exogenous origin (winter diet and local diet), respectively, while egg isotopic values corresponded to the "consumer." In 2007, we used whole blood taken during chick-rearing to ensure that isotopic turnover had occurred and the blood would thus reflect local isotopic sources obtained during incubation, while in 2008, we used plasma taken during late incubation to represent the local diet.
According to the researchers, "Use of our embryonic lethality system, without the need for radiation, can increase the safety of SIT programs, since accidental releases would not lead to infestations of the environment and possible risks coming from isotopic sources can be eliminated for workers and the environment." (ANI)
This applies in particular to preparing, detecting and responding to minimise the impact of nuclear, radiological (misappropriation of isotopic sources for criminal purposes), biological or chemical (NRBC) threats. The Commission announced last November 22 the adoption of a Communication called "Civil protection - State of preventive alert against possible emergencies " COM(2001)707) where it explained the role of the European civil protection network and its links with other allied policy-making networks and sectors.
