The JASSM-ER variant has done well thus far, with no failures during the first seven flight tests.
Should the SAC's mark-ups on the JASSM program match those made by the House, Inderhees said the company would have to work with both the Air Force and Congress to determine how to go forward, particularly with the JASSM-ER, development of which would clearly be impacted by severe cuts to or even outright termination of its parent program.--Brendan P.
Included in the 4,900 missile buy for the Air Force is a yet undetermined number of extended range JASSMs, or JASSM-ER. Lockheed Martin is developing this variant to fly 500 nautical miles, two-and-a-half times the range of the baseline missile.
Instead of moving ahead with the DSUP, the Air Force now plans to implement other improvements to the B-1 program, including upgrading the aircraft's current EDO (Deer Park, NY) AN/ALQ-161 electronic-countermeasures system; developing, procuring, and integrating the Joint Air to Surface Stand-off Missile for Extended Range (JASSM-ER); improving the Wind Corrected Munitions Dispenser (WCMD) and chaff/flare dispenser; and increasing B-1 sustaining engineering efforts.
That version is known as JASSM-ER, for extended range.
The next stage of development was originally to have been the 1000-km Jassm-ER, but Lockheed Martin is now studying an extreme range derivative (Jassm-XR) with a range of 1850 km.
Development is now proceeding on the expanded response Jassm-ER as a replacement for the Boeing AGM-86C (discussed below).
