Gwynn lived in Jowai until he was 10 and his parents were Welsh Presbyterian missionaries in the area for 26 years.
As a 5-year-old, Gwynn, who formerly worked for the National Trust, saw the local hospital in Jowai being built and opened in 1953 - much of it with the help of his father.
Since 2007 when his wife Enid, suggested a visit to Jowai, they have been raising funds for projects there, including modernising the local hospital to save children's lives.
She said: "I'm looking forward to seeing where my grandfather lived and was brought up and also following in the footsteps and seeing the work of my great-grandfather in Jowai."
