The difficulties faced by developers as a result of the discontinuation of KPR were exacerbated by the fact that BTN raised the interest rate on house construction credit (KYG) to 50%, a move which resulted in only 2% of the existing developers being able to remain in operations.
Although the Government has agreed to provide Rp 961 billion in subsidized KPR for the development of 80,000 simple/very simple houses for 2001, BTN has of late ceased to issue SP3Ks (credit approvals) for subsidized home-ownership credit (KPR) and house-construction credit (KYG) in a number of provinces.
Many of them have been unable to continue the construction of houses as planned because they have refused to forward an application for house construction credit (KYG).
