FIZA: LaML is one its kind which works on a holistic model in terms of helping the impoverished communities by empowering them while providing them one of the basic necessities of life that is light.
When we visit these villages post installation for survey studies the beneficiaries are over whelmed and share their experience of how LaML has not only illuminated their houses but has also given a new direction to their lives.
The Myanmar Government and Asian Development Bank (ADB) invited me to Myanmar for representing LaML and the benefits provided by this Asian Best Practice.
Through this apolitical concert, TERI and the Buksh Foundation not only hope to raise funds for the LaML
campaign, but also raise awareness on the issue of sustainable development and bilateral unity.
The 'Lighting a Million Lives' (LaML
) project was launched in September 2012 in collaboration with Teri India's "Lighting a Billion Lives".' Soon after gaining success, the initiative started its operations in Pakistan and spread across 75 villages, providing electricity, employment and livable circumstances to many locals of the areas.
Fiza Farhan, CEO Buksh Foundation and Director Buksh Energy, said: "It is quite an emotionally fulfilling experience for the entire team of Buksh Energy to see the realization of our mutual vision of "Impact Investment" first with the success and scale achieved by providing solar electricity and mobile charging facility to more than 75 villages in 12 districts of the country for the sister concern Buksh Foundation's LaML
project, solar water filtration plants for clean drinking water solutions and solar tube wells in rural Punjab for Buksh Foundation's Drop of Sun project, then moving onto solar banking and ATMs, smart grid solutions and now finally with low cost and lower energy consumption LED lighting solutions."
Together, they founded the Lighting a Million Lives (LAML
) project, which collaborates with local multilateral corporations to sponsor the conversion of villages in rural Punjab, which suffer from severe load shedding or are not connected to the grid at all, to solar power.
In the recent year Buksh Foundation has electrified 72 villages under LaML
project in 11 different districts of Pakistan, positivelyimpacting the lives of around 18,000 beneficiaries directly and around 40,000 individuals indirectly.
The project titled "Lighting a Million Lives (LaML
)" has been implemented successfully in 10 villages of Sahiwal, besides achievements in Lodhran, Minawali, DG Khan, Dera Ismel Khan and other villages.
