In the late 1990s, Tanusevci had become a funnel for arms to the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), and, in 2000, a transit point for arms smuggling for the insurgents of the Liberation Army of Presevo, Medvedja and Bujanovac (LAPMB) in Southern Serbia's Presevo Valley.
He argues that the NLA, the KLA and the LAPMB were all part of the same criminal network, engaged in smuggling drugs, illegal immigrants and kidnapped sex slaves to Italy, where they had previously formed alliances with the Italian mafia.
