OVERVIEW OF LARCC CLIENTS (APRIL 1, 2012-MARCH 31,2013)
As reflected in Table 1, LARCC served the English Language and occupational learning needs of 8,444 new and return clients, using CLB tools, from April 1, 2012-March 31, 2013.
LARCC clients include those newcomers to Alberta who are not working in employment which they find satisfactory.
The two main assessment tools used at LARCC are the Canadian Language Benchmarks Assessment (CLBA) and the Canadian Language Benchmarks Placement Test (CLBPT), each of which assesses English skills from Pre-Benchmark to Benchmark (BM) 8.
It was used infrequently at LARCC in 2012-13, and only 10 individuals scored higher than BM 8 in at least one skill area.
LARCC staff and counsellors note that clients come with enormous skills, talents, potential, and dreams.
Clients served by LARCC from April 1, 2012 to March 31, 2013 come from diverse backgrounds.
Observably, there is a strong correlation between client priorities noted and the referrals provided by LARCC. This service provides an initial step in the path to secure livelihood.
