Las Dignas began as a participant in the political struggle of the Salvadoran left.
Las Dignas was founded as a feminist organization in El Salvador in 1992 after the Peace Agreement process, but there is an even longer history behind the organization, which goes back to the time when one of the five branches of the Frente Farabundo Marti para la Liberacion Nacional (FMLN) split from the National Resistance Movement.
So Las Dignas has begun to offer information and counseling to the laborers to inform them of their rights and has even negotiated with some maquilas to prevent them from closing and/or to improve labor conditions on behalf of the women.
Two years later, the women of this division broke off from Las Dignas and created their own organization.
