Trends in fish communities among reaches of the Illinois River were observed in yearly LTEF monitoring data visually depicted through NMDS ordinations.
Using long-term LTEF monitoring records, NMDS ordinations depicted directional changes over time in fish communities within the Illinois River exposed to two well-documented anthropogenic events, improvements in water quality and the establishment of bigheaded carp.
al (2012), using LTEF monitoring data, also determined an increase in the relative abundance of nonnative fish species in the lower river from 2000-2009, which coincided with the establishment of bigheaded carp.
Bigheaded carp currently exist in Dresden Island Pool (reach 3; Des Plains and Illinois Rivers) in low numbers but have not been sampled by LTEF monitoring and therefore are not present in our analysis (one grass carp was sampled in 1999; ACRCC, 2016).
