Two equations are primarily used to estimate GFR: the MDRD and CKD Epidemiology Collaborative (CKD-EPI) equations.
In addition, some studies indicate that cysC is a more sensitive predictor of CV morbidity than the measured GFR, as well as the calculated GFR using the MDRD formula.
A newer equation, the Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration (CKD-EPI) formula, has also been proven to be equally effective as the MDRD equation and may actually be better at measuring GFRs > 60 ml/min/1.73 [m.sup.2].
GFR was furthermore calculated using six estimating formulae, Cockcroft-Gault formula [25], the modification of diet in renal disease (MDRD) equations using 4 and 6 variables [26, 27], and Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration (CKD-EPI) equations using creatinine alone (CKD-EPI Cr) [28], CysC alone (CKD-EPI CysC), or both CKD-EPI (Cr-CysC) [29] (Table 1).
Both HIVMA and New York State lean toward the Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Consortium (CKD-EPI) equation, which may be more accurate than MDRD for people with HIV.

Hereafter, there was partial renal function recovery (eGFR (MDRD) of 10 mL/min/1.73 [m.sup.2]), after which mastectomy was performed without cessation of anticoagulant therapy.
GFR MDRD Calculator for Adults 2012 2/11/2013 [cited; Available from: adults-conventional-unit.shtml]
We compare the reported eGFR values to expected values calculated using the 4-parameter MDRD equation, defining an acceptable participant result to be within [+ or -]1 mL/min per 1.73 [m.sup.2] of the expected value.
