Like other mining projects around the country, MMJV takes on many quasi-governmental roles, claiming to have spent Papua New Guinea Kina (PGK) 20 million between 2010 and 2012 in 'health, water and sanitation, education, agriculture/aquaculture, community infrastructure, community and local level government (LLG) capacity building program and Lae and Bulolo Highway Mantaince' (MMJV Hidden Valley Presentation 2012).
(5.) MMJV was a joint venture company between Harmony Gold and Newcrest.
The company and its employees had renovated the community hall for the people of Maokane and to this, Dr Madigele commended MMJV
for heeding the call to support government's efforts to develop the country and its people.
