As in every rapidly expanding company, my role was multifaceted as the agency transi- tioned from a small business to a medium-sized entity.
IFRS for SMEs states that "the objective of financial statements of a small or medium-sized entity is to provide information about the financial position, performance and cash flows of the entity that is useful for economic decisionmaking by a broad range of users who are not in a position to demand reports tailored to meet their particular information needs." Providing information about the results of the stewardship of management--the accountability of management for the resources entrusted to it--is also an important part of that objective.
The Small and Medium-sized Entity Standard (SME) provides a simplified set of rules for companies with no public reporting responsibilities.
