BigBand Networks, Inc., a leading provider of broadband multimedia infrastructure for video, voice and data, has announced operation of channel bonding on the BigBand Modular CMTS (cable modem termination system) solution.
"The BigBand Networks technology team has furthered its record of innovation, integrating multiple disciplines in this implementation of modular CMTS combined with channel bonding," said Gil Kaufman, BigBand Networks executive vice president of worldwide engineering.
Modular CMTS is designed to economically increase DOCSIS capacity by separating MAC (media access control) routing and DOCSIS signaling, from the edge QAM (quadrature amplitude modulation), with each performed on purpose- designed platforms.
The announced CMTS chipset from Broadcom includes the BCM3215 QAMLink(R) octal downstream DOCSIS modular CMTS (M-CMTS(TM)) core media access controller (MAC) and the BCM3216 QAMLink DOCSIS 3.0 upstream media access controller.
The operator is reportedly installing Cuda as an integrated CMTS in the initial phase of deployment, with plans to migrate to modular CMTS (M-CMTS).
Unlike traditional CMTS platforms that integrate capabilities on one chassis, a modular CMTS separates functionality onto two platforms.
