(95) Since the publication of Vaccaro Sofia in 1961, catalogues have largely assumed certainty about the 1538 edition, Barberi and the Dizionario dei tipografi mention three editions of the Commento printed by Antonio Blado and his heirs as though each date and edition is secure (1538, 1539, and 1584; only the 1540 edition is doubted).

This letter to Varchi mentions the season's king, Giovan Francesco Leoni, as having "un naso sesquipedale," and proves that Caro's after-dinner speech that year was his "La Nasea ovvero Diceria de' Nasi." Ash Wednesday fell on 6 March, so Caro was writing a few days after the end of his Carnival triumph.
