Test matrices included cell culture medium, human whole blood (NBACC), or rat whole blood (DSTL).
Although studies at NBACC showed complete inactivation of EBOV/Mak in dried blood by 5% peracetic acid, complementary studies at DSTL showed that use of a lower concentration (0.2%) of peracetic acid resulted in a 94.9% reduction in viral titers in samples with viable virus still present (Figure 2, panel C).
In response to claims of libelous content, NBACC
voluntarily discontinued use of the image and letter files shortly after being served notice of a lawsuit by the county sheriff.

On July 31, 2007 the London Guardian reported that the US is "Building (a) Treaty-Breaching Germ War Defence Centre" near Washington, DC" - NBACC
. It's to be completed in 2008 and will be a "vast germ warfare laboratory intended to help protect the US against an attack with biological weapons, but critics say the laboratory's work will violate international law and its extreme secrecy will exacerbate a biological arms race (by) accelerat(ing) work on similar facilities around the world."
In December 2006 Battelle National Biodefense Institute hooked the $250-million, five-year DHS contract to run the NBACC
. According to the Washington Post, much of what transpires at that center may never be known as the government intends to operate the facility largely in secret.
During the two years prior to completion of the new facility, BNBI will manage ongoing NBACC
work from an office in Frederick, Md.
A laboratory facility dedicated to executing the NBACC
mission and to contain two NBACC
component centers is being built at Fort Detrick, Maryland, as part of the National Interagency Biodefense Campus.
