The association between the intake of some nutrients, food products, or food groups and several NCCDs can be determined using dietary instruments that comprehensively assess diet, and the scientific literature has proposed several indexes for this purpose (3).
Because fruits and vegetables are sources of vitamins, minerals, and fiber, the adequate consumption of these food products seems to have a protective effect against NCCDs (33), diseases that currently affect Brazilian children younger than 5 years old (2,34).
