The Office of NCHIT is to increase the ease of use in which medical information can be transferred to patients and other medical providers (Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology [ONC], 2012).
As noted by Gunter and Terry (2005), the healthcare system within the United States cannot comply with a universal concept as defined by the Office of the NCHIT because of the disparities that currently exist among healthcare providers.
