The study reported here was a coordinated effort of the North Carolina Clean Water Management Trust Fund (NCCWMTF), the Greenville North Carolina Resource Conservation and Development Office (NCRCD), the North Carolina Public Health Pest Management Section (NCPHPM), and East Carolina University to provide data that would address the question of whether mosquito populations would significantly rise and the question of what species would be present in a community after a new wetland was introduced.
In an effort to correct and improve drainage problems and to contribute to water quality, NCRCD's Greenville office initiated a project to construct a wetland along the Mill Branch Creek in Simpson (Figure 1).
