This year more than 30 organizations, including the Sports and Cardiovascular Nutritionists, the Jaycees and the American Hospital Association have promoted NEHFD to their members, associate organizations and readerships.
Friendly camaraderie takes precedence over competition at NEHFD events, according to Liston.
NEHFD activities can be as simple as a walk around the block or more creative endeavors such as the American Medical Association's "Dash for Trash" city clean-up in Chicago.
To become a part of NEHFD, a company need only invest $15 for the registration packet, which includes a T-shirt and workout towel, buttons and promotional posters, all sporting the NEHFD logo and slogan "Shaping Up is No Sweat." A resource guide also provides health and safety tips gleaned from the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Institute for Fitness and Sports.
