, said: "We're running this initiative in partnership with North East retailers and participating police forces Durham, Cleveland and North Yorkshire in a bid to tackle the displacement of retail crime throughout the region.
For the past 10 years, the NERCP
has been gathering intelligence and tracking prolific shop thieves across the North East.

, said: "We know there are criminals travelling from as far south as Kent and Bristol and from as far north as Glasgow.
She said anecdotal evidence from retail members of the NERCP
suggested it was "not just greed, but need" which was now driving some people to steal from shops.

Its launch comes after the NERCP
has spent the last year putting in place agreements which allow other partnerships across the country to share the data.
