New Delhi, July 13 ( ANI ): A delegation of National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW), the women's wing of the Communist Party of India (CPI), on Sunday met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and raised the issue of women trafficking in the country.
"There was a news report in the newspaper which says that a large number of children, especially girls, were trafficked from Jharkhand to different states," said women activist and NFIW general secretary Annie Raja.
Later, leaders of All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) and National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW) said that the Commission responded to the complaint "positively".
NFIW General Secretary Annie Raja said the model code should be reviewed to specifically incorporate sexist and anti-women remarks and recommended strict action against those responsible for making them.
Led by the National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW), the protestors assembled on the gates of the Parliament and shouted slogans against Kurien, and demanding that he be removed from his post as Deputy Chairman.
We had written a letter to the UPA chief Sonia Gandhi to remove Kurien from his office," said NFIW general secretary, Annie Raja.
