By World Malaria Day, April 25, 2009, they joined Nigeria's federal health minister, Professor Babatunde Osotimehin, the UN Special Envoy for Malaria, Ray Chambers, CIFA founder Ed Scott, and other supporters in Washington, DC to announce the launch of NIFAA. The Nigerian Ministry of Health, with World Bank support, committed more than $2 million over two years to fund NIFAA's secretariat in Abuja.
A year later, NIFAA is an active partner of the Nigerian National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP), actively training Muslim and Christian leaders to deliver key malaria messages in conjunction with religious services on Fridays and Sundays.
New national-scale partnerships such as that between NIFAA and Nigeria's Federal Ministry of Health offer exciting new possibilities for sustainable impact on MDGs, and, in the long term, lay the groundwork for new partnerships between the religious and public sectors.
