An hour-long programme of films from the NRFTA will be shown on Friday and Sunday and on Sunday there will be an evening screening of The Pursuit of Happiness, a 2008 film about the late Murray Martin, Amber's founding visionary.
Being held at Teesside Archives in Middlesbrough Exchange Square, the event includes premieres of new films donated to the NRFTA and a screening of a re-discovered film.
David Parsons, film archivist at the NRFTA, said: "The films featured in this event reflect not only some of the distinct character of the area but also how much the county has changed in 30 or 40 years.
Each film will be introduced by an archivist from NRFTA, giving a historical background to the footage.
The reels, which have viewed on specialist equipment by NRFTA, were all in good condition.
The Northern Region Film and Television Archive (NRFTA) at the University of Teesside is screening a selection of films on Home Movie Day on Saturday, August 12.
With bases on Teesside and at Tyne Wear Archives Service in Newcastle, NRFTA collects, preserves and provides access to moving images of life and work in the region.
