In 2000-2001, the National Survey of Parents and Youth (NSPY) collected alcohol use information on 1,560 9- to 12-year-olds and found that 6.2 percent of 9-year-olds, 5.5 percent of 10-year-olds, 9.2 percent of 11-year-olds, and 15.5 percent of 12-year-olds had had more than a few sips of alcohol in their life.
