The median price of a single-family home is now $359,950, and in the NWMLS area that covers most of Bellingham, the median closing price for single-family homes sold for the month was $422,500.
Across the NWMLS service area, 13 counties reported a double digit decline inventory compared to a year ago.
NWMLS also leverages the public network in many ways, including hosting an Internet site with company information and providing Internet access to its workforce for business communication.
When an ISP failure brought down access to its entire site, NWMLS realized that establishing multiple links and ISP providers was critical to ensuring the continued success of its business.
"We had taken care to build resiliency in our network, systems and applications, but that was entirely superseded by the fact that we only had one ISP, one lifeline to our customers," says Brendan Johnson, IT manager at NWMLS.
The fundamental issue for NWMLS, however, became one of control.
To address the problem, NWMLS decided to "multihome" its network.
"We had to bring additional books, training and resources in-house." He estimates his company spent nearly $3,000 on outside resources to get the BGP configuration up and running, not to mention the time needed for NWMLS employees to get up to speed once it was in place.

Housing inventory continued to drop in July, according to the NWMLS. There were 1,289 active listings on the market; That's 24 percent fewer than in July 2014, when 1,697 homes were on the market.
Whatcom County has 3.47 months of housing inventory, according to the NWMLS. In July 2014, the county had 5.56 months of supply.
NWMLS figures show about 2.2 months of inventory system-wide in Western Washington, according to a press release on the report.
