The brushtail possum, indigenous to Australia, was introduced into New Zealand in the 19th century and has been decimating the country's native tropical forests ever since, prompting endorsements by environmental groups like Greenpeace for NZNI's conservationist products.
"I think we're probably the world's only `green' fur product company," said Amanda Searancke, NZNI's president.
NZNI showed its bedcovers, throws, pillows and rugs, constructed of 100 percent brushtail and blends using silk and merino wool, at the recent New York Home Textiles Show, and will again have a booth at the High Point market this week.
