MDU Resources Group subsidiary Montana-Dakota Utilities announced that it intends to retire three aging coal-fired electric generation units at two locations within the next two to three years and construct a new simple-cycle natural gas combustion turbine
to cost-effectively meet the needs of its customers.
During this phase, the company will begin removing structures, including retired natural gas combustion turbine
units, precipitators, coal handling equipment and the water tank.
Yet for each megawatt of electricity created by natural gas combustion turbines
, over 1 ton of air pollutants are released into the local air.
