Diagnosis of central retinal vein occlusion was made clinically by slit lamp biomicroscopy with 78D examination Patients who had received any treatment for and eyes which already had developed Anterior Segment Neovascularization, Neovascularization elsewhere or Neovascularization on disc at presentation were excluded.
No eye developed neovascularization elsewhere, neovascularization on the disc, neovascularization, retinal tears, retinal detachment, lens trauma, endophthalmitis or anterior chamber activity.
Although various treatment options14,15 are available for central retinal vein occlusion and its associated blindness but none is effective enough to satisfy the patients or the treating ophthalmologists in terms of visual outcome.1,15 The ocular morbidity due to central retinal vein occlusion is related to retinal (macular) edema, retinal ischemia and complications secondary to anterior segment neovascularization, neovascularization elsewhere or neovascularization on the disc in absence of other co-morbidities.1,16,17 Neo-vascular glaucoma secondary to central retinal vein occlusion, commonly known as "100 days" glaucoma occurs almost in 50% of cases.17
A multi-centre randomized control trial, provided the basis for standard management protocol for central retinal vein occlusion affected eyes.18 The study concluded that pan-retinal photocoagulation reduces the incidence of neo-vascular glaucoma due to anterior segment neovascularization or incidence of vitreous bleed due to neovascularization elsewhere or neovascularization on the disc.
None of eyes developed neovascularization elsewhere, neovascularization on the disc or anterior segment neovascularization during follow up.
In the present study none of the eyes developed neovascularization elsewhere, neovascularization on the disc , anterior segment neovascularization and neo-vascular glaucoma during the 4 months follow up.
