Their latest onslaught is evident in the Nigerian Press Council Amendment Bill that has passed Second Reading in the Senate.
The Nigerian Press Council Amendment Bill is incontrovertibly part of the orchestrated efforts to gag the press by those who perceive journalists as foes.
Others include Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, Federal Polytechnic, Ekowe, Bayelsa State, National Broadcasting Commission, Nigerian Press Council, Nigerian Centre for Metallurgical Development, Teacher's Registration Council and National Council for Arts and Culture.
It gave the assurance on Wednesday following adverse reactions trailing the Nigerian Press Council Amendment Bill now pending before the National Assembly.
The statement read: 'Nigerian groups or individuals that have objections to the Nigerian Press Council Amendment Bill have been told to follow due process rather than throw mud at the government using the media.'
The innocuous bill, tagged Repeal and Enactment Bill 2018, seeks to repeal the Nigerian Press Council Act 1992.
The communique read: 'The Standing Committee discussed the state of the nation and the media and took particular note of the Nigerian Press Council Act 1992 (Repeal and Enactment Bill 2018) which is currently before the Senate and has passed second reading.
Other dead beneficiaries included Senator Francis Akposo, who was listed for the chairmanship of the Nigerian Press Council (NPC), but had died since December 26, 2016.
