Now, the NMFTA has quietly inserted language that reverses centuries of common law and business practice by making it the shipper's problem to prove negligence when a shipment arrives damaged or is lost in transit--and amazingly the U.S.
On July 14, 2016, the NMFTA issued a supplement to the National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC) that became effective on August 13, 2016.
It's developed and maintained by the Commodity Classification Standards Board, an autonomous board of the NMFTA
Rather than allow the NMFC to become dormant, the National Motor Freight Traffic Association (NMFTA), which owns the NMFC, decided to create a new group composed of classification specialists who were not employees of any carrier.
One new procedure that has evolved is a listing on nmfta.org of commodities that the CCSB is reviewing.
And in place of the former National Classification Committee, comprised of 100 carrier representatives, a non-carrier Commodity Classification Standards Board (CCSB) composed of staff classification specialists employed by the National Motor Freight Traffic Association (NMFTA
) has been formed to keep the NMFC current.
Since then, in order to keep the NMFC alive and current, the National Motor Freight Traffic Association (NMFTA
), which was the parent to the NCC, established what is called the Commodity Classification Standards Board (CCSB).

member subsidiaries-Yellow Transportation and Roadway, among others-will begin contract negotiations with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) for the new National Master Freight Agreement (NMFTA
) as early as September.
