As subsequent analysis will show, participants of the anti-domestic violence forum are less dedicated, organized, and active as those in a typical internetworked social movement, but the forum is also more socially active than the majority of OMHGs, which are found to emphasize mutual support among private participants than collective actions for social change (Coulson, 2005; Finn, 1999).
Unlike many OMHGs that have been investigated by scholars, it truly offers victims a conduit of help that is completely absent from their regular social networks.
Threads in the anti-domestic violence forum that focus on social critique and advocacy deviate greatly from contents found in typical OMHGs. Posters of these threads do not seek help on specific issues, provide help to particular posters, or tell their own experiences of domestic violence.
