USDOT and the pilot sites conducted the test to demonstrate and validate that a vehicle with an onboard device from one of the sites was able to securely receive messages from onboard units
and roadside units from another pilot site, in accordance with the key connected vehicle interfaces and standards.
Target: Automotive Telematics Onboard unit
Platform (ATOP) business
Schaeffler developed the system electronics and software and then integrated these in the GSB, forming an onboard unit
USDOT and the CV pilot sites defined interoperability as: "A vehicle with an onboard unit
from one of the three CV pilot sites is able to interact with onboard units
and/or roadside units from the other sites in accordance with the key connected vehicle interfaces and standards."
It is based on an electromagnetic link between a roadside unit (RSU) and an onboard unit
(OBU) fixed to the inside windscreen of the motorist's vehicle.
Vehicles equipped with an onboard unit
receive notification of a pedestrian in an active crosswalk via an invehicle display.
We have also deployed necessary onboard units
in these cars with real users.
Note: Active DSRC (dedicated smart range communication) is an interactive communication system in which 5.8 GHz microwaves are emitted by both onboard units
and roadside antennas.
