The focus of this study has been on the preparation of polystyrene-clay nanocomposites by suspension polymerization of styrene monomer in the presence of organo-MMT, and on understanding the effect of the concentration of organophilic montmorillonite (MMT) on the properties of PS-clay nanocomposites and the potential effect of surfactants with different alkyl chain lengths on the properties of PS-clay nanocomposites.
Organophilic montmorillonites prepared from those surfactants proved to have a higher thermal stability than Cloisite 20A.
Poly(amic acid) nanocomposites were synthesized from a dimethylacetamide (DMAc) solution with two organophilic montmorillonites (organo-MMTs).
