Unmanipulated haploidentical-related donor (HRD) HCT has yielded encouraging outcomes in the treatment of hematologic malignancies, making it an alternative option for patients who do not have an HLA-matched sibling donor (MSD).[36],[37],[38],[39],[40] One study even reported that unmanipulated HRD-HCT from granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF)-mobilized bone marrow and peripheral blood stem cells (PBSCs) achieved a stronger graft-versus-leukemia (GVL) effect than MSD-HCT in patients with high-risk acute leukemia.[36] Moreover, PBSC transplantation is less invasive for the donor and easy to perform.
Subgroup analyses indicated that bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMMSCs) were superior to bone marrow mononuclear cells (BMMNCs), but there was no significant difference between bone marrow stem cells (BMSCs) and peripheral blood stem cells (PBSCs) in improving the ABI.
"In this phase 2 study, we provide the first evidence that intracerebral injection of autologous (selfdonated) PBSCs can improve motor function in Uiosc who have suffered a stroke and have motor deficits as a result," said study corresponding Woei-Cheng Shyu of the China Medical University here.
At a mean age of 15.3 years (range, 6-24.5 years), at a median of 10 months after HSCT (range, 3-22 months), seven (7.85%) patients were diagnosed with autoimmune cutaneous manifestations--two developed areas of vitiligo only, five had skin sclerodermatous lesions (four localized and one generalized)--and all had peripheral stem cell sources (one unrelated, the others related PBSC).
PBSC transplantation (PBSCT) has become increasingly common with PBSCs largely replacing bone marrow (BM) as the preferred stem cell source due largely to quicker engraftment kinetics and ease of collection.
Transplantation using PBSCs with ex vivo TCD is the most common HLA-mismatched/haploidentical transplant approach in Europe and the United States [55].
After nearly four months of consideration, the US Attorney General has chosen not to ask the Supreme Court to review the 9th Circuit Court's ruling that allows peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) donors to be compensated.
The number of [CD34.sup.+] cells detected was slightly higher with the Cytomics FC500 than with the FACSCalibur for both WB (median, 31.0/[micro]L [range, 2.3-244.3/[micro]L] versus median, 29.8/[micro]L [3.4-234.9/[micro]L]) and PBSCs (median, 1040/[micro]L [range, 67.5-14587.5/[micro]L] versus median, 857.9/[micro]L [range, 50.6-13456.7/[micro]L]).
We report a patient with hepatitis-associated SAA who was successfully treated with syngeneic peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) transplantation after a series of infectious and bleeding complications.
"You get four shots, one each day to release an increased number of PBSCs. Then they'll hook you up to an IV and extract your blood.
Data regarding the ability of pegfilgrastim to mobilize PBSCs in patients with hematologic malignancies are scarce; results in patients with myeloma suggest a 12-mg dose of pegfilgrastim is efficacious in mobilizing PBSCs.
Additionally, on 6 December 2001, the Department of Defense (DOD) issued an interim amendment to the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS), adding section 212.102, which allows the DOD to treat certain PBSCs and task orders as contracts for the procurement of commercial items.
