Peza Director General Charito Plaza said in a statement last week that revising the agency's charter had been 'long overdue.'
'Unlike [the] Peza law which is already 24 years old, other investment promotion agencies have recently had their respective charters amended,' Plaza said in a statement late Tuesday.
The rift stemmed from the second CTRP, which would overhaul the PEZA incentive scheme as proposed by the Department of Finance.
When asked to comment on whether the PEZA should be part of the Fiscal Incentives Review Board (FIRB) which will have the power to grant and cancel incentives under the CITIRA bill, Lopez said there would only be a need for PEZA to be in the board if all other investment promotion agencies (IPAs) are also members.
But the proposal is more than just about Peza's independence from the DTI.
Lopez stated he was not even consulted by Peza Director General Charito B.
"This will have a big impact on us as this will create high vacancies in several of our IT Centers/Parks," said PEZA Director-General Charito B.
We are thankful that the President sees GIE as more rational and advantageous tax regime for collecting taxes from companies and investors in the country," PEZA director general Charito Plaza said.
'Peza incentives are not given to companies, enterprises, locators or ecozone developers per se, but incentives for export-based industries are for those who are able to upgrade their products [and] activities, expand their projects and markets, [as well as] those who can bring technology transfer in the Philippines,' Plaza said in a statement.
