All the PHCw posted in the study area were invited to participate in the training programme, which consisted of a 1-day training session mainly focused on the detection of early leprosy and management of common skin diseases including pyoderma, scabies, tinea capitis and other superficial mycoses.
Overall, 495 PHCw attended the three anonymous written tests: 389 came to the pre-training and just after, and 106 the later assessment.
The results showed that there was a huge and stable improvement in the skill of PHCw in managing patients suspected of having leprosy.
