For his part, the director of the technical department at Sudan's ministry of electricity and water resources Saif al-Din Hamad said the
PJTC continued to set an example to be followed by the various international commissions for 55 years.
Upstream water extraction could play a critical role in the viability of the project and therefore the
PJTC is simultaneously working on a draft country-to-country bi-lateral agreement before it is agreed to pursue the project.
The
PJTC was established in accordance with the 1959 Nile Waters Treaty signed between Khartoum and Cairo in order to resolve disputes and jointly review claims by any other riparian nation.
