Polyaniline (PAn) and its derivatives such as poly-o-anisidine (POAn) are conducting polymers which, due to their high electrical conductivity, have been suggested to be used as protective coatings on oxidizable metals.
The PAn: PAA-co-AA and POAn: PAA-co-AA films were applied on the steel surfaces by immersion of the coupons in PAn: PAA-co-AA and POAn: PAA-co-AA saturated DMF solution.
Spectrum 400 (FTIR/FTFIR spectrometer) equipment was used to obtain the Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra of doped PAn and POAn films on steel surfaces.
The FTIR spectrum of doped PAn and POAn films on steel surfaces is shown in Fig.
Figures 5a and 5b show results of the three parallel tests for ([R.sub.po]) of PAn: (PAA-co-AA) and POAn: (PAA-co-AA) at [10.sup.5] Hz, respectively.

This is because the lone pairs of electrons in the oxygen atom of the methoxy group in POAn offer repulsion against the uptake of chloride ions.
It was found that the presence of POAn as an undercoating caused a more stable state in corrosion resistance compared to PAn undercoating for longer periods of immersion times.
The increase in corrosion resistance in steel coated with undercoating/paint could be related to the lower permeability of PAn and POAn films when compared with the paint coating against corrosive species.(8) In addition, comparison between both undercoating/paint images shows that several pores on the surface of steel coated with PAn/paint can be observed, which confirms the decrease in the quality of paint/PAn at the end of 28 days.
This result confirms the higher performance of POAn in the paint system.
The POAN data in figure l0 are from a single OAN prediction model based on DVVA analysis of loose and pelletized blacks.
