So POCAAN (People of Color Against AIDS Network) was established in 1987 to provide training about AIDS/HIV aimed at African-Americans, Latinos, Asian/Pacific Islanders and Native Americans: It serves as a link between health care agencies, churches and schools, and tries to circumvent the language and cultural barriers that often hamper the success of mainstream outreach in these communities.
