Second, the President's Research Committee on Social Trends (PRCST) illustrates the Hoover administration's attempt to assess various aspects of American society using social science as its backbone.
On December 19, 1929, Hoover formally announced the PRCST, which was designed to "direct an extensive survey into the significant social changes in our national life over recent years" (cited in Myers 1934, 1:193).
According to Wilbur, the monographs produced from the PRCST would culminate in a conference where the findings could be made accessible to the public.
