Rock singer Perry Farrell (Porno for Pyros; Jane's Addiction) is 60.
Joining SACRED as their special guest for their Summerfest appearance will be Peter DiStefano, Guitarist from Perry Farrell's Porno for Pyros.
Even though he penned Porno for Pyros' "Pets," Farrell reveals (and relieves) himself that he's not quite housebroken yet on the silly, psychedelic-electronica ditty, "Splash A Little Water On It." Although the sentiment is supposed to be a metaphor for how to nurture a romantically budding relationship, Farrell sounds like a blooming idiot when he gushes, "Just splash a little water on it/See what you're working with/Splash a little water on it/And see if it comes alive." I got a better idea.
Mike was bassist and founder member of California hardcore band The Minutemen and is a sometime member of The Stooges, J Mascis and The Fog and Porno For Pyros.
It would be unfair to talk about Farrell as only a flamboyant singer and performer - he also designed many of the band's risque album covers, had side-projects such as the shortlived but talented band, Porno for Pyros, but more importantly, founded Lollapalooza, a unique touring festival that started as a farewell tour around the time Jane's Addiction disbanded in the early 1990s.
Rob Siefert Gage, who has worked with the Eels and Porno for Pyros, produced it.
The band split in a mess of heroin addiction in 1993 and Perry went on to form the acclaimed new band Porno for Pyros, but reteamed with bandmates Dave Navarro, Eric Avery and Stephen Perkins in 1997.
Singer with Jane's Addiction and Porno for Pyros. 1964: Elle Macpherson.
It's Perry's biggest musical project since his chart-topping punk groups Jane's Addiction and Porno For Pyros.
It has to be said that a solo album from the former Jane's Addiction frontman would probably not loom large on the wish list of most given the state of disrepair into which his band fell before they split and the squalling rubbish that was Porno For Pyros. Surprise then that this is actually rather good, even if those who'll get most out of it are late 60s acid cases.
Film covers town meetings, interviews with concert-goers and band members, and live footage of such groups as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica, Porno for Pyros and Nine Inch Nails.
Problem was, it featured a listless, tossed-together lineup of marginal rock bands (Love & Rockets, Black Grape, Farrell's own inconsequential Porno for Pyros, and old-fashioned, overexposed electronic artists (The Orb, Meat Beat Manifesto, Deee-Lite's Lady Miss Kier).
