Orbital ATK (NYSE: OA), a provider of aerospace and defence technologies, announced on Monday, that in partnership with NASA, it has completed the installation of the second Space Launch System (SLS) booster qualification motor, QM-2, in a specialised test stand in Utah in preparation for a 28 June 2016 static-fire test.
The successful pre-flight test, known as Qualification Motor 1 (QM-1), is an important milestone in validating the rocket motor's use for SLS and its deep space missions.
The Qualification Motor 2, or QM-2, test was held at Orbital ATKs test facility in Promontory, Utah, and was the second and final booster test before SLSs first test flight in late 2018.
