The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), by contrast, is a compact cluster of homogenous South Asian countries.
According to a message received here from Kathmandu, Nepal, he expressed these views while addressing inaugural session of three-day SAARC chamber 77th Executive Committee and 23rd GA Meetings commenced today.

Qureshi added that a body established to bring prosperity to the peoples of the region but the attitude of only one country is hindering the spirit and objectives of the SAARC.
He also noted that SAARC had immense potential for strengthening the economies of the member countries and promoting collaboration in various areas of mutual significance.
Pakistan, one of the founding members of SAARC, has remained committed to the objectives of the organisation as enshrined in its charter and has played an active role in its activities.Pakistan hosted the 4th and 12th SAARC Summits in 1988 and 2004, respectively, and will be hosting the 19th SAARC Summit in Islamabad.
