), by contrast, is a compact cluster of homogenous South Asian countries.
According to a message received here from Kathmandu, Nepal, he expressed these views while addressing inaugural session of three-day SAARC
chamber 77th Executive Committee and 23rd GA Meetings commenced today.
He said that since its inception, the SAARC
Chamber has facilitated regional cooperation in various areas for the welfare of people of South Asia.
The campaign will include establishment of hotline across the SAARC
region where a collective data base of tips and complaints of forced marriages will be maintained.
The meeting was organised on the occasion of SAARC
The event was organised by the Foreign Office in collaboration with the Saarc
Arbitration Council and Saarc
While addressing the gathering, Foreign Secretary emphasized that only through adhering to the principles of sovereign equality and mutual respect among member states, would we be able to guide SAARC
to our cherished goal of a prosperous and developed South Asian region.
The Foreign Secretary also reiterated that Pakistan stood ready to host the 19th SAARC
The meeting was held with President SAARC
CCI Ruwan Edirisinghe in the chair which was organized by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).
Qureshi added that a body established to bring prosperity to the peoples of the region but the attitude of only one country is hindering the spirit and objectives of the SAARC
He also noted that SAARC
had immense potential for strengthening the economies of the member countries and promoting collaboration in various areas of mutual significance.
Pakistan, one of the founding members of SAARC
, has remained committed to the objectives of the organisation as enshrined in its charter and has played an active role in its activities.Pakistan hosted the 4th and 12th SAARC
Summits in 1988 and 2004, respectively, and will be hosting the 19th SAARC
Summit in Islamabad.
