A significant outcome of resolution of sDTI pressure ulcers was observed.
Suspected deep tissue injury (sDTI), one type of pressure ulcer, occurs as a result of damage of underlying soft tissue from pressure and/or shear.
Despite a vast amount of resources dedicated to pressure ulcers and their prevention, clinical data on sDTI are sparse (VanGilder, MacFarlane, Harrison, Lachenbruch, & Meyer, 2010).
Estimated average cost to treat an individual with an sDTI is $43,180 but easily can exceed $100,000 if that ulcer progresses to stage III or stage IV (Brem et al., 2010; Zaratkiewicz et al., 2010).
