Licences for the city's four sexual entertainment venues (SEVs
) are under scrutiny as the council consults the public.
In 2015, it introduced the Air Weapons and Licensing (Scotland) Act which allows (but does not force) councils to introduce Sexual Entertainment Venue (SEV
) licences and to cap the number of licences allowed in their authority area.
At the Long Legs licensing hearing, party activist Sam Johnson said SEVs
'perpetuate an attitude of sexism and misogyny', market women as 'sexual objects for male gratification' and show them as 'commodities.'.
Sarah Clover, the barrister representing Scarlets, said: "What is really being said is that the Royal Ballet and Hippodrome are purveyors of a higher quality of artistry and entertainment than an sexual entertainment venue (SEV
She added: "The fact is there are people in our city who would not choose to go to the ballet or theatre and would go to an SEV
Culturing of Isolated Subpopulations and Harvest of Cells and sEVs
. Isolated leukocytes were adjusted to 3 x [10.sup.6] cells/mL and cultured in either 12-well (3 x [10.sup.6] cells/well, 1.5 mL/well) or 24-well plates (1.5 x [10.sup.6] cells/well, 1 mL/well) (Nunc, Thermo Scientific, Carlsbad, CA, USA) for 44-48 hours at 37[degrees]C and 5% C[O.sub.2].
It was also argued the move would not see any extra SEVs
in the city centre, all alternative venues had been considered and that 74 jobs would be at risk.
The council can limit the number of SEVs
it licences, but before any proposal is put forward the council wants to hear what residents think.
At least 56 University of Sunderland undergraduates and postgraduates, as SEVs
, will in turn interview and select the games maker volunteers.
